“Deacons. This term is from the Greek diakonos, and is defined to signify primarily, ‘a waiter, an attendant, a servant; usually derived from dia and konos, one dusty from running. An officer in the primitive church, one who had charge of the alms and money of the church, an overseer of the sick and poor, an almoner. Philippians 1:1; 1 Timothy 3:8, 12; Acts 6:1-6; Also of a female who had charge of the female sick and poor.” Romans 16:1. COOD 129.3
