All through the ages, biblical prophets have consistently declared that what they proclaimed came from the Lord. “The LORD spoke to Moses” (Exod. 8:1; 12:1); “Thus says the Lord” (Obad. 1:1; 2 Sam. 7:8; Josh. 7:13; Jer. 13:1); and “The word of the LORD . . . came to me, saying” (Ezek. 12:1) are some of the expressions the prophets used to make sure that their hearers understood that what they said was not their word but God’s word. The expression “word of God” (1 Sam. 9:27) indicates very clearly the source of the message. UEGW 229.1
