Isaiah 2 ISV — Isaiah 2

1 The message that Amoz’s son Isaiah received a2:1 Lit. observed concerning Judah and Jerusalem: ISV — Isaiah 2:1

3 Many groups of people d2:3 Lit. Many peoples will come, commenting, “Come! LXX, Mic 4:2; 4QIsae MT LXX read he may teach us his ways. Then let’s walk in his paths.” “Instruction g2:3 Or For the law will proceed from Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 4 He will judge between the nations, and will render verdicts h2:4 Or judgment for the benefit of many. i2:4 Lit. many peoples “They will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nations will not raise swords against nations, and they will not learn warfare anymore. ISV — Isaiah 2:4

5 “You house of Jacob! Come! Let’s live j2:5 Lit. walk in the LORD’s light. ISV — Isaiah 2:5

6 For you have rejected your people, the house of Jacob, because they are filled with practices learned k2:6 1QIsaa MT lack with practices learned from the East and they are fortune-tellers like the Philistines. They cut deals l2:6 Lit. They shake hands with foreigners. m2:6 Lit. with descendants of foreigners ISV — Isaiah 2:6

7 Their land is filled with silver and gold, and there is no end to their treasures; their land is filled with horses, and there is no end to their chariots. ISV — Isaiah 2:7

8 Their land is filled with idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their own fingers have made. ISV — Isaiah 2:8

12 “For the LORD of the Heavenly Armies has reserved w2:12 1QIsaa MT LXX lack reserved a time x 2:12 Lit. day to oppose y2:12 Lit. against all who are proud and haughty, and the z2:12 So 1QIsaa; MT LXX read oppose all of the self-exalting— they will be humbled. ISV — Isaiah 2:12

13 He will take his stand aa2:13 DSS MT LXX lack He will take his stand against all the cedars bb2:13 i.e. a genus of coniferous evergreen in the family Pinaceae; and so throughout the book of Lebanon, against the proud and self-exalting; and against all the oaks of Bashan; ISV — Isaiah 2:13

14 against all the high mountains, and against all the lofty hills; ISV — Isaiah 2:14

15 against every high tower, and against every fortified wall; ISV — Isaiah 2:15

16 against all the ships from Tarshish, and against all their impressive watercraft. ISV — Isaiah 2:16

17 “Humanity’s haughtiness will be humbled, male arrogance will be brought low, and the LORD alone will be exalted in that day. ISV — Isaiah 2:17

21 They will enter caverns in the rocks and clefts in the cliffs, to escape jj2:21 Lit. from the terror of the LORD and to escape kk2:21 Lit. from the splendor of his majesty, when he arises to terrorize the earth. ISV — Isaiah 2:21

22 “Stop trusting in human beings, whose life breath is in their nostrils, for what are they ll2:22 Lit. what is he really worth?” mm2:22 LXX lacks this verse ISV — Isaiah 2:22
