THE CLEANSING OF THE SANCTUARY SRme 1

In the earthly sanctuary the blood of an animal was the sin offering. This blood represented taking the sins from the people and putting those sins in the sanctuary. In the heavenly sanctuary, the blood of Jesus was offered for the sins of the people. The earthly sanctuary was cleansed by removing the sins that had defiled the sanctuary. The heavenly sanctuary is cleansed by removing the sins recorded there. The books of record must be examined to determine who, through repentance of sin and faith in Jesus, may receive salvation through the Saviour's blood. SRme 1.1653

So, the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary must involve the examination of the books of record. This investigative judgment must be done before Jesus comes to take His people to heaven. When Jesus comes, He will reward every person according to what he or she has done. SRme 1.1654

The Adventists who studied the prophecy carefully began to understand the investigative judgment. These believers saw that instead of coming to earth at the end of the 2300 years, Jesus entered the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary. Jesus went into the presence of God. Jesus began the closing work of salvation and atonement that had to be done before the second coming. SRme 1.1655
