Distortions of Christian communication happen when the message of Christ is twisted to align with personal agendas, societal norms, or political ideologies. Instead of reflecting the truth of God’s word, these distortions manipulate Scripture to justify harmful beliefs or actions. Two common examples of this are nationalism and revising Scripture. CR 116.2

Nationalism becomes problematic when it places allegiance to one’s country above the teachings of Christ. While loving and supporting one’s nation can be good, using Christianity to endorse political power or justify exclusionary policies contradicts the gospel’s message of love, justice, and unity. In addition, revising Scripture is another distortion, occurring when people reinterpret God’s word to fit societal values rather than seeking to align their lives with biblical truth. This often means ignoring challenging passages or reshaping biblical teachings to accommodate personal beliefs. While the Bible is meant to be a living guide, twisting it to justify sin or endorse harmful behavior weakens its truth and authority. As followers of Christ, it’s essential to engage with Scripture honestly in order to reflect the genuine message of God’s love and grace.[119] https://www.adventist.org/who-are-seventh-day-adventists/bible-reveals-god/ CR 116.3
