Counsel #5 — Avoid Debt! CMH 76

Picture: Counsel #5 — Avoid Debt! CMH 76.1

As a young adult, you have a responsibility to develop sound financial literacy and make wise financial decisions. Seek guidance from Christian mentors and your faith community. A basic principle is to avoid debt wherever possible (read Deuteronomy 28 for more insights on how to increase blessings and avoid curses!). CMH 76.2

If through varied circumstances, you have accumulated a significant debt, don’t despair. Just determine to let Jesus be your full Partner going forward. He will help you out of your current difficulties and give you wisdom to manage your finances better in the future.[87]https://ssnet.org/blog/tuesday-how-to-get-out-of-debt/ CMH 76.3

“The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.” Proverbs 22:7 NKJV CMH 76.4

“Be determined never to incur another debt. Deny yourself a thousand things rather than run in debt. This has been the curse of your life, getting into debt. Avoid it as you would the smallpox.” Ellen White in Homeward Bound, p.209 CMH 76.5

Reflect: Can you reframe your perspective on debt, viewing it not just as a financial burden but also as a potential barrier to experiencing God’s blessings? How can you partner with God in overcoming financial challenges and developing healthier financial habits? CMH 76.6
