Counsel #2 — Two Sabbath Rests CCW 108

Because there were two kinds of law in the Bible, we see two kinds of Sabbaths. The regular, weekly Sabbath of Creation categorically forbade any work,[180]Leviticus 23:3 whereas each of the various Lunar sabbaths only forbade regular, or customary work.[181]Leviticus 23:8, 21, 25, 35, 36 This suggests that Lunar sabbaths commonly fell on typical workdays, and when these occurred, the work that was customary or regular would need to temporarily cease as part of the festival. In other words, these Lunar sabbaths were like federal public holidays, where a government gives its citizens the day off. In contrast, the Sabbath of the Ten Commandments was consistent, regular and originated with Creation.[182]Exodus 20:8-11 CCW 108.2

“But you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD for seven days. The seventh day shall be a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it.Leviticus 23:8 NKJV CCW 108.3

“The daily service consisted of the morning and evening burnt offering, the offering of sweet incense on the golden altar, and the special offerings for individual sins. And there were also offerings for Sabbaths, new moons, and special feasts.” Ellen White in Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 352 CCW 108.4

Reflect: Why is the distinction between the regular Sabbath and Lunar Sabbaths significant in biblical interpretation?[183]https://www.ministrymagazine.org/archive/2009/08/keeping-the-sabbath-intensely-holy CCW 108.5
