Counsel #18 — The Gift Of Prophecy CCL 28

Picture: Counsel #18 — The Gift Of Prophecy CCL 28.1

One of the gifts of the Holy Spirit to believers is prophecy.[35]Romans 12:4-8; 1 Corinthians 12:7-11; Ephesians 4:11-13 This gift is a key characteristic of the true church,[36]Revelation 12:17; 19:10 b and Seventh-day Adventists believe it was evident in the ministry of Ellen G. White.[37]For biblical examples of female prophets, see: Exodus 15:20; Judges 4:4; 2 Kings 22:14; Luke 2:36; Acts 21:9 Her writings carry prophetic weight, offering encouragement, direction, instruction, and correction for the church today. The focus of her writings is Jesus and how we can be saved through Him. Importantly, Ellen White’s writings always point back to the Bible as the ultimate source of truth and the standard by which all teachings and experiences should be evaluated.[38]https://www.adventist.org/gift-of-prophecy/ CCL 28.2

“Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, the Lord, make Myself known to him in a vision; I speak to him in a dream.” Numbers 12:6 NKJV CCL 28.3

“God has also spoken to the fallen race through chosen human agencies, to whom He has communicated a knowledge of His purpose in visions and dreams. These messengers of His will, have been known as holy men, or prophets, set apart by the Lord Himself for the special work of receiving and communicating truth from heaven to mankind.” Ellen White in Christian Experience and Teachings of Ellen G. White, p. 237 CCL 28.4

Reflect: How can we ensure we are discerning true prophetic voices from false ones? (Consider Isaiah 8:20) CCL 28.5
