John 14

1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Believe ^{a14:1 Or You believe} in God, believe also in me.ISV — John 14:1

2 There are many rooms in my Father’s house. If there weren’t, I wouldn’t have told you that I am going away to prepare a place for you, would I?ISV — John 14:2

3 And since ^{b14:3 Or, And if, as is the case,} I’m going away to prepare a place for you, I’ll come back again and welcome you into my presence, so that you may be where I am.ISV — John 14:3

4 You know where I am going, and you know the way.”ISV — John 14:4

5 Thomas asked him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”ISV — John 14:5

6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.ISV — John 14:6

7 If you have known me, you will also know my Father. From now on you know him and have seen him.”ISV — John 14:7

8 Philip told him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will satisfy us.”ISV — John 14:8

9 “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me?” Jesus asked him. “The person who has seen me has seen the Father. So how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?ISV — John 14:9

10 You believe, don’t you, that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I don’t speak on my own. It is the Father who dwells in me and who carries out his work.ISV — John 14:10

11 Believe me, I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Otherwise, believe me ^{c14:11 Other mss. lack me} because of what I’ve been doing. ^{d14:11 Lit. of the works themselves}ISV — John 14:11

12 Truly, I tell all of you ^{e14:12 The Gk. pronoun you is pl.} emphatically, the one who believes in me will also do what I’m doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I’m going to the Father.ISV — John 14:12

13 I’ll do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.ISV — John 14:13

14 If you ask me ^{f14:14 Other mss. lack me} for anything in my name, I will do it.”ISV — John 14:14

15 “If you love me, keep ^{g14:15 Other mss. read you will keep} my commandments.ISV — John 14:15

16 I will ask the Father to give ^{h14:16 Lit. and he will give} you another Helper, to be with you always.ISV — John 14:16

17 He is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor recognizes him. But you recognize him, because he lives with you and will be in ^{i14:17 Or among} you.ISV — John 14:17

18 I’m not going to forsake you like orphans. I will come back to you.ISV — John 14:18

19 “In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also.ISV — John 14:19

20 At that time, you’ll know that I am in my Father, that you are in me, and that I am in you.ISV — John 14:20

21 The person who has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I, too, will love him and reveal myself to him.”ISV — John 14:21

22 Judas (not Iscariot) asked him, “Lord, how is it that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?”ISV — John 14:22

23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. Then my Father will love him, and we will go to him and make our home within him.ISV — John 14:23

24 The one who doesn’t love me doesn’t keep my words. The words that you’re hearing me say are not mine, but come from the Father who sent me.ISV — John 14:24

25 “I have told you this while I am still with you.ISV — John 14:25

26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything that I have told you.ISV — John 14:26

27 I’m leaving you at peace. I’m giving you my own peace. I’m not giving it to you as the world gives. So don’t let your hearts be troubled, and don’t be afraid.ISV — John 14:27

28 You have heard me tell you, ‘I’m going away, but I’m coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I’m going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.ISV — John 14:28

29 I’ve told you this now, before I leave, so that when I do leave, you will believe.ISV — John 14:29

30 I won’t talk with you much longer, because the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me. ^{j14:30 Lit. has nothing in me}ISV — John 14:30

31 But I’m doing what the Father has commanded me, to let the world know that I love the Father. Get up! Let us leave this place.”ISV — John 14:31
