    Not The Spirit Of God

The testifier and the “things” testified are not the same. The witness who witnesses or testifies and his witness or testimony are not the same.GoPH 179.4

Therefore the testimony of Jesus or the “things” which Jesus “testifies cannot be Jesus nor the Holy Spirit. But the testimony of the angel and the testimony of John are the spirit of prophecy because their testimony is the testimony of Jesus, and because the testimony of Jesus is the spirit or life of prophecy.GoPH 179.5

And to prove that this was the original view of this scripture taken by Bro. and Sis. White, we will quote from page 335 of “Life Sketches” by “Eld. James White and his wife, Mrs. Ellen G. White,” edition of 1880.GoPH 179.6

“We will now inquire, what is the testimony of Jesus? The angel gives John the answer to this question in its broadest signification. ‘The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.’ Rev. 1ft: 10. The spirit, soul, and substance of prophecy, is the testimony of Jesus Christ. Or, the voice of the prophets relative to the plan and work of human redemption, is the voice of the Redeemer. Christ undertook the work of redemption, and who should inspire a book upon the subject but the Redeemer Himself?”GoPH 179.7

In this connection it will be interesting to note how often “the spirit of prophecy” is termed “things.”GoPH 179.8

1.“He which testifieth these things saith Surely I come quickly.” Revelation 22:20.GoPH 179.9

    2. “All things that he saw.” 1:2.GoPH 180.1

    3. “Those things which are written therein.” 1:3.GoPH 180.2

    4. “Write the things that thou hast seen.” 1: 19.GoPH 180.3

    5. “The things which are.” 1: 19.GoPH 180.4

    6. “The things which shall be.” 1:19.GoPH 180.5

    7. ” The things which shortly must be done.” 22: 6.GoPH 180.6

    8. “John saw these things and heard them.” 22: 8.GoPH 180.7

    9. “The angel which showed me these things.” 22: 8.GoPH 180.8

    10. “I, Jesus, have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things.” 22: 16.GoPH 180.9

    11. “If any man shall add unto these things.” 22: 18.GoPH 180.10

Eleven times the testimony of Jesus which is the spirit of prophecy is spoken of as “things” But “things” which have been testified or prophesied cannot possibly be the gift to prophesy, but can be and are, the ‘‘things’’ which have been testified through the exercise of the gift.GoPH 180.11
