Picture: Counsel #25 — Love for God CR 172.1
The kind of love that’s truly worth holding on to will always bring you closer to God, not pull you away. When you’re with someone who genuinely loves you, your faith won’t feel like something you have to shrink or set aside. Instead, it will grow! You’ll find yourself praying more, worshiping with more passion, and wanting to become the best version of yourself. CR 172.2
On the flip side, if you notice that you’re drifting spiritually, compromising more often, or putting your relationship with God on the back burner just to keep someone happy, that’s a red flag. True love never competes with your Creator - it complements your commitment to Him. Love should always challenge you to be better, not only emotionally or physically, but spiritually too. If the relationship is from God, it will feel like a blessing and lend to consistent spiritual growth. It will never serve as a distraction. You’ll grow together, push each other toward purpose, and keep Christ at the center. So, ask yourself honestly: does this relationship fuel my faith, or slowly drain it? The answer will tell you everything you need to know. CR 172.3
