Counsel #9 — Beyond Applause CSL 19

Picture: Counsel #9 — Beyond Applause CSL 19.1

Understanding who you are in Christ is so important when you realize that it eliminates the need to rely on what other people think of you. When we find our identity in Jesus, we become complete. CSL 19.2

It’s easy to get caught up in wanting people to like us or to affirm what we do. You might especially look for approval if you’ve felt left out, abandoned, or rejected before. But God offers you something much better: His constant, never-ending love and acceptance. You are the treasured child of the King of the Universe, and nothing can change that, unless you choose to leave His family. When you truly understand your immense value because you’re God’s child, your need for human approval becomes unimportant. Your true value and identity come from Him, not from what others say or think about you. Leaning on God’s love and acceptance will give you a sense of belonging, filling that empty hole in your soul that the applause of people never can.[18] https://www.gcyouthministries.org/wp-content/uploads/Identity-Devotional.pdf CSL 19.3

“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God.” 1 John 3:1 NKJV CSL 19.4

“Human opinions and customs are not to be received as of divine authority. God has revealed in His word what is the whole duty of man, and we are not to be swayed from the great standard of righteousness.” Ellen White in Homeward Bound , p. 18 CSL 19.5

Reflect: What is one practical step you can take this week to remind yourself that your true value comes from God, not from what others say or do? CSL 19.6
