THOUGHT QUESTIONS as you reflect upon Chapter 3 as a whole:
1. Peter declares that Christians may actually “hasten” (LDE or, by implication, also “hinder”) the return of Jesus (LDE 2 Peter 3:12); while Paul declares that God has already “appointed a day” for the final judgment of the world (LDE Acts 17:31). EGW also sets forth both motifs--which, for many, seem contradictory, mutually exclusive. Can you harmonize this seeming discrepancy? If so, how?
2. According to EGW, both the promises and threatenings of God are alike conditional (LDE 38:3), and the time for the 2nd Coming was conditional (LDE 36-38). What assurance do you find in Nahum 1:9 that the fact of the 2nd Coming is not conditional?LDE-SG 7.8
