Chapter 11—The Preparation of A Posthumous E. G. White Book

The procedure which is followed in the office of the Ellen G. White Publications in the preparation of compilations of the E. G. White writings, as they have appeared in such books as Evangelism, Temperance, and The Adventist Home, has been designed to present to the readers a truly accurate and unbiased picture of the Ellen G. White teachings.EGWMR 95.1

One can readily understand that in order to represent fairly the Spirit of prophecy instruction in a compilation, care must be taken to safeguard its balance and integrity, and to prevent its being molded or colored by the thinking of the compilers. For this reason we do not, in the preparation of a new book, follow the normal procedure of developing an outline and then searching the various sources to find materials to fit that outline. This would be the simplest and least expensive method, but to work in this way would be to run the risk of overlooking some vital instruction, while perhaps overemphasizing some other point of relatively minor importance. Using the book Evangelism as a typical illustration, we shall trace here the several steps followed in the preparation of an E. G. White compilation.EGWMR 95.2
