Picture: Counsel #5 — Uplifting The PoorCSI 84.1

Jesus opposed the world’s unfair system of judging people’s value. He stood with the poor to fight the negative view society attached to them. By blessing the poor, who will be part of God’s kingdom, Jesus permanently removed the shame associated with poverty. He set an example for us, saying, “Whoever wants to follow me must sacrifice their own desires, accept the challenges they face each day, and follow my teachings.” (Luke 9:23)CSI 84.2

Jesus acknowledged that poverty will always exist (John 12:8), suggesting there will always be ways to serve Him. If our roles were reversed, wouldn’t we want to be helped?CSI 84.4

"May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples with equity and guide the nations of the earth." Psalms 67:4 NIVCSI 84.5

“The tendency of sin is to destroy truth and integrity. Entertained in the heart, sin destroys piety, equity, compassion, and genuine love.” Ellen White in Letters and Manuscripts, vol. 17, Manuscript 55, 1902, par. 2CSI 84.6
