Counsel #24 — Peace In Your Real Identity CMH 26

Picture: Counsel #24 — Peace In Your Real Identity CMH 26.1

A lot of stress and anxiety come from how people treat us. Maybe a friend says something unkind, someone at school or work is being difficult, or even family members just don’t get you. When we feel like our worth depends on what others think or how they act toward us, it’s easy to lose our peace. We start trying to be someone we’re not just to fit in or be liked, and that never works out. CMH 26.2

But imagine finding an identity that can’t be taken away from you. That’s what happens when you find your identity in Christ. God has always completely valued and loved you, and He always will—no matter what. You don’t have to earn it or prove it. When you understand this truth deep down, what people say or do to you matters less and less. Their unkind words or unfair actions don’t define you anymore because your true value is already set. This frees you to stop worrying about what everyone else thinks. It is in this knowledge that deep, lasting peace of mind, body, and spirit really begins.[28] https://www.gcyouthministries.org/wp-content/uploads/Identity-Devotional.pdf CMH 26.3

“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!” 1 John 3:1 NKJV CMH 26.4

“Your heavenly Father means to teach you to find in Him the friendship and love and consolation that will satisfy your most earnest hopes and desires...” Ellen White in Our High Calling , p. 259 CMH 26.5

Reflect: How can focusing on God’s unconditional love help you worry less about what other people think? CMH 26.6
