FOREWORD
John Norton Loughborough (1832-1924) was converted to Seventh-day Adventism at the age of twenty. (1852) He immediately went forth to proclaim the third angel’s message, supporting himself by carpentry since there was no organized work at that time.SAIN 2.1
He was ordained in 1854 and worked in New York, Pennsylvania and the Middle West. In 1868 he and D. T. Bourdeau went to California to pioneer the work there. By 1871 he had helped to establish five churches. In 1878 he baptized the first three members in Nevada. Then went on to England to pioneer the work there.SAIN 2.2
Through the years he held such positions as Conference President, General Conference Treasurer and evangelist.SAIN 2.3
He wrote several books which are all still in demand by scholars.SAIN 2.4
His final active work (except for occasional speaking engagements at some of the camp meetings) was to tour the world in 1908 visiting SDA establishments in Europe, Australia, Africa and New Zealand.SAIN 2.5
