    The Brethren Seek Counsel

The International Religious Liberty Association gave careful study to this delicate matter. Its recording secretary, A. O. Tait, in Battle Creek, Michigan, directed questions to W. C. White who was laboring in Australia. Undoubtedly Elder Tait had in mind that these questions would be placed before Sister White for her counsel. And this is what took place in November, 1895, near the close of the camp meeting held at Armadale, a suburb of Melbourne. It was in connection with the study of these problems that Mrs. White stated some things which she had not felt at liberty to disclose before. It was at that time that she made the thought-provoking declaration that “Slavery will again be revived in the Southern States; for the spirit of slavery still lives.”SWR 3.4
