A Bold Invitation to Radical Discipleship — August 9 [Description]Passage Overview: Luke 18:18-30This passage tells the story of a wealthy young ruler who asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus first affirms the importance of obeying the commandments. The man replies that he has kept them since youth. Then Jesus challenges him to take a deeper step: sell all he has, give to the poor, and follow Him. The man becomes very sad, because he is very wealthy.Jesus responds by saying it’s extremely difficult for the rich to enter the kingdom of God—“easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle.” But He adds, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”Peter then reminds Jesus that the disciples have left everything to follow Him. Jesus promises that those who sacrifice for the sake of God’s kingdom will receive far more in this life—and eternal life in the age to come. This passage is a bold invitation to radical discipleship: surrendering what we treasure most in order to gain what we were truly made for.
