Invited, Will You Show Up Ready? — September 18 [Description]Overview of Matthew 22:1-14:Jesus tells a parable comparing the kingdom of heaven to a king who throws a wedding feast for his son. The invited guests refuse to come—some ignore the invitation, others mistreat and kill the king’s messengers. The king responds by destroying those murderers and inviting anyone and everyone from the streets to fill the banquet hall. However, when the king sees one guest without proper wedding clothes, he has him thrown out. Jesus ends the story with, “For many are invited, but few are chosen.”This parable highlights:- God’s open invitation to His kingdom,- The rejection of that invitation by many,- The serious expectation that those who accept must come prepared (symbolizing righteousness or true transformation),- And the ultimate reality that being invited isn’t enough—response and readiness matter.

Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.365D 261.9

Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’365D 261.10

So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.365D 261.11

“But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment.365D 261.12

So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless.365D 261.13

Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, [b]NU omits take him away, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’365D 261.14
