    Chapter 46—Christ Our Mediator

    BIBLE GEM

“There is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.”—1 Timothy 2:5CWG 108.1

    QUESTION

How may one comprehend Christ's work as mediator?CWG 108.2

    ANSWER

“Study His mediatorial work”: “ ‘To the apostle John on the Isle of Patmos were revealed the things which God desired him to give to the people. Study these revelations.... Behold the life and character of Christ, and study His mediatorial work. Here is infinite wisdom, infinite love, infinite justice, infinite mercy.’ ”—Testimonies For The Church 6:59CWG 108.3

Christ the connecting link: “Christ is the connecting link between God and man. He has promised His personal intercession. He places the whole virtue of His righteousness on the side of the suppliant. ... As we approach God through the virtue of the Redeemer's merits, Christ places us close by His side, encircling us with His human arm, while with His divine arm He grasps the throne of the Infinite.... He promises to hear and answer our supplications.CWG 108.4

“Yes, Christ has become the medium of prayer between man and God. He has also become the medium of blessing between God and man.”—Testimonies For The Church 8:178CWG 108.5

Jesus our representative: “ ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased,’ embraces humanity. God spoke to Jesus as our representative.... The glory that rested upon Christ is a pledge of the love of God for us. It tells of the power of prayer,—how the human voice may reach the ear of God, and our petitions find acceptance in the courts of heaven.... The voice which spoke to Jesus says to every believing soul, ‘This My beloved child, in whom I am well pleased.’ ”—The Desire of Ages, 113CWG 108.6

Divinity united to humanity: “The Saviour was deeply anxious for His disciples to understand for what purpose His divinity was united to humanity.... God was manifested in Him that He might be manifested in them. Jesus revealed no qualities and exercised no powers, that men may not have through faith in Him. His perfect humanity is that which all His followers may possess, if they will be in subjection to God as He was.”—The Desire of Ages, 664CWG 109.1

Essential to the plan of salvation: “The intercession of Christ in man's behalf in the sanctuary above is as essential to the plan of salvation as was His death upon the cross. By His death He began that work which after His resurrection He ascended to complete in heaven.... Jesus has opened the way to the Father's throne, and through His mediation the sincere desire of all who come to Him in faith may be presented before God.”—The Great Controversy, 489CWG 109.2

Significance of praying in Christ's name: “To pray in Christ's name means much. It means that we are to accept His character, manifest His spirit, and work His works.... He saves men, not in sin, but from sin; and those who love Him will show their love by obedience.”—The Desire of Ages, 668CWG 109.3

    SUMMARY AND PRAYER THOUGHT

I am so happy, thankful, and grateful that Jesus Christ of Bethlehem, the only begotten Son of the Father, came into this world to save unworthy sinners like me. I am free from the power, condemnation and bondage to sin and Satan. Sin has no dominion over me.CWG 109.4

Am I sinless or perfect? Oh, no. I wish. My wife wishes, too. But I can have the sinless perfection of Jesus Christ given to me as a free gift and by the mighty power of the Holy Spirit, I can be an overcomer. Do I still sin? Sad to say, yes. Every time I take over and do my own thing. However, I am determined by God's help to daily, hourly and moment by moment choose to love and obey and serve the Lord Jesus Christ. And to the extent I choose Him, His ways and His example, to that degree, but only to that degree, He comes in and gives me victory over self, pride, the lust of the flesh and the temptations of the devil. Satan cannot force me to sin.CWG 109.5

Thank God that Jesus Christ will save us from sin.CWG 109.6

Thank You loving Jesus for your salvation rich and free. Thank you for dying in our place so that now unquestionably we are the children of the King of Kings, saved by grace alone. What a joy it is to be a Christian.CWG 109.7
