    Chapter 48—Mothers’ Prayers

    BIBLE GEM

“And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.”—Isaiah 54:13CWG 112.1

    QUESTION

What can I do to prepare my children for eternal life?CWG 112.2

    ANSWER

Heaven is open to every mother's prayers: “When Christ bowed on the banks of Jordan after His baptism and offered up prayer in behalf of humanity, the heavens were opened; and the Spirit of God, like a dove of burnished gold, encircled the form of the Saviour; and a voice came from heaven which said, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’CWG 112.3

“What significance does this have for you? It says that heaven is open to your prayers. It says that you are accepted in the Beloved. The gates are open for every mother who would lay her burden at the Saviour's feet. It says that Christ has encircled the race with His human arm, and with His divine arm He has grasped the throne of the Infinite and united man with God, and earth with heaven.”—Child Guidance, 525, 526CWG 112.4

A precious privilege: “This is an encouraging lesson to mothers for all time. After they have done the best they can do for the good of their children, they may bring them to Jesus. Even the babes in the mother's arms are precious in His sight.... He will receive and bless them; He will give peace, hope, and happiness to mother and children. This is a precious privilege which Jesus has granted to all mothers.”—The Adventist Home, 274CWG 112.5

Christian mothers’ prayers will bear fruit: “The prayers of Christian mothers are not disregarded by the Father of all. ... He will not turn away your petitions and leave you and yours to the buffetings of Satan in the great day of final conflict. It is for you to work with simplicity and faithfulness, and God will establish the work of your hands.”—Child Guidance, 526CWG 112.6

“The lifework performed on earth is acknowledged in the heavenly courts as a work well done.CWG 113.1

“With joy unutterable, parents see the crown, the robe, the harp, given to their children.... The seed sown with tears and prayers may have seemed to be sown in vain, but their harvest is reaped with joy at last. Their children have been redeemed.”—Child Guidance, 569CWG 113.2

Influence lasts forever: “The influence of a praying, God-fearing mother will last through eternity. She may die, but her work will endure.”—Testimonies For The Church 4:500CWG 113.3

A call to pray: “If ever there was a time when every house should be a house of prayer, it is now.”—Testimonies For The Church 7:42CWG 113.4

“By sincere, earnest prayer parents should make a hedge about their children. They should pray with full faith that God will abide with them, and that holy angels will guard them and their children from Satan's cruel power.”—Testimonies For The Church 7:42, 43CWG 113.5

“Let parents seek God for guidance in their work. On their knees before Him they will gain a true understanding of their great responsibilities and there they can commit their children to One who will never err in counsel and instruction.”—The Adventist Home, 321CWG 113.6

    SUMMARY AND PRAYER THOUGHT

Thank God for earnest, sincere, heartfelt prayers of loving mothers. They seem to be able to enter into the experiences, the heartaches, problems, sorrows, trials, and temptations of their children. There is something tender, extremely loving kind, considerate, sensitive and compassionate about a mother's heart. Thank God that He made them like that. Through loving mothers, the love of God is manifested to us even before we are born, and I praise God for a loving mother and an extremely tenderhearted, soft and gentle, kind and compassionate, loving and forgiving angel that He gave me for a wife.CWG 113.7

I am where I am only because of their earnest heartfelt prayer and many tears they shed for me.CWG 113.8

Let us honor and cherish our mothers and wives and show appreciation by kind words and love expressed by little deeds like bringing flowers to them on a regular basis.CWG 113.9

Thank God that He has vividly demonstrated His tender love and care to us through our mother, wife and daughters.CWG 113.10

Men, let us honor them.CWG 113.11
