    The Spiritual House

The apostle Peter, in speaking of the Lord’s church as a building, says: “If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 2:3-5. These sacrifices are not animal flesh, as in the Levitical priesthood; but, as expressed by Paul: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1. David plainly states the sacrifice that is acceptable with God, when he says: “Thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit” a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.” Psalm 51:16, 17.COOD 13.1
