    Babylonian Captivity

This Babylonian captivity was but the visible expression of the bondage in which the people had already voluntarily placed themselves. They had flattered themselves that they were free, while they were “the servants of corruption; for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.” 22 Peter 2:19. ‘Whosoever committeth sin is the bondservant of sin.” 3John 8:34. Physical slavery is a small matter compared with soul-bondage, and but for the latter, the former never could have been known.EVCO 470.1
