Q6. What is the purpose of the new earth?

Picture: Q6. What is the purpose of the new earth?JTLD 392.1

The entire Bible is the ongoing story of God’s covenant with human beings—His covenant to be faithful to us as we respond in willing obedience to Him. The new earth is the ultimate fulfillment of all the covenant promises found throughout Scripture. It is the ultimate objective of redemption history and of the gospel.JTLD 392.2

God’s covenant to be faithful to us includes the reward of eternal life for the righteous. God’s promises to ancient Israel are to be fulfilled to the Christian church, to those who have accepted Jesus as Lord of their lives. This eternal glorious reward is the “hope laid up for you in heaven” (Colossians 1:5), the “promised eternal inheritance” (Hebrews 9:15), which is the new earth.JTLD 392.3
