    JUDAS CONFESSES

Judas hated himself for his disloyal, wicked act of selling Jesus. When Judas saw the soldiers making Jesus suffer, he was overcome with guilt. Judas loved Jesus, but he loved money more. Judas did not think that Jesus would let Himself be taken prisoner. Judas expected Jesus to work a miracle to save Himself. When Judas saw the fierce anger of the crowd toward Jesus in the judgment hall, he felt guilty. The people were eager for Jesus to be killed. Many people were loudly accusing Jesus of doing wrong. Judas rushed through the crowd. He confessed he had sinned in selling innocent blood. Judas offered the priests the money they had paid him. He begged them to free Jesus. Judas said that Jesus was innocent.SRme 1.945

For a short time anger and confusion kept the priests silent. The priests did not want the people to know they had hired one of the disciples to sell Jesus to them. The priests wished to hide the fact that they had hunted Jesus as a thief and taken Him secretly. But Judas' confession and his guilty appearance let everyone know that hate had caused the priests to take Jesus prisoner.SRme 1.946

Many people in the crowd felt sorry for Jesus. They were surprised that Jesus did not answer the many questions asked Him. Jesus' face remained peaceful in spite of the wicked mockery and violence of the crowd. Jesus stood there calmly, looking dignified. People looked at Jesus with wonder. They compared His perfect appearance with the appearance of the people who judged Him. The people told one another that Jesus looked more as a king than any of the rulers. Jesus did not look like a criminal. Jesus' eyes were clear and not afraid. His forehead was broad and high. Everything about Jesus showed love and royalty. The crowd trembled because they had never seen a man so patient. Herod and Pilate also were greatly troubled at Jesus' Godlike appearance.SRme 1.950
