    GOD'S LAW CANNOT CHANGE

Everyone in heaven felt sad because Adam and Eve had disobeyed God. By sinning, our first parents brought punishment on the entire human race, not just upon themselves. Now they could not talk face to face with God. They had no hope. The law of God could not be changed to meet their need. God's law can never lose its power. Not the smallest part of the law can be changed.SRme 1.131

Angels were sent to tell Adam and Eve about the plan of salvation. Our first parents could not continue living in their garden home because of their sin. But Adam and Eve were to have hope. They were told that the Son of God who had talked with them in Eden had felt great pity when He saw they had no hope for the future. Jesus Himself had offered to take their punishment so that they could live. People who would have faith and accept what Jesus did for them would be able to live forever. This would bring hope to the people of the world. Human beings had sinned but Satan would not have complete control over people on earth. Now with faith in Jesus people could resist Satan's temptations.SRme 1.132

Each person would be given a chance to repent and follow God. If a person chose to accept Jesus' death for his sins, he would be forgiven. Then his efforts to keep the law could be accepted.SRme 1.133

The angels told Adam and Eve how everyone in heaven became sad when they heard that Adam and Eve had disobeyed God's law. Now Christ must sacrifice His own precious life so that the people of earth could live again.SRme 1.134

Adam and Eve began to realize how holy and important the law of God is. They saw that because they had disobeyed God's law, Jesus must die to save them and their children from ruin. They begged that they might be allowed to die themselves or that they and their children might bear the punishment for their sin. They did not want the dearly loved Son of God to have to die for them.SRme 1.135

Adam felt very bad about his sin before, but now he felt worse. Adam had a difficult time believing that Jesus who had walked and talked with him in the garden, must die for him! Jesus, whom angels had honored and worshiped, would be brought down from His high position in heaven. Jesus must die because Adam and Eve had sinned.SRme 1.136

Adam was told that an angel could not pay the debt for Adam's sin. The law of God is the foundation of God's government in heaven and on earth. The Law is as holy as God. For this reason the life of an angel could not be accepted as payment for disobeying God's law.SRme 1.137

God's law is more important in His sight than the holy angels around God's throne. God could not change one small part of His law to save a sinner. But the Son of God who with the Father had created human beings, could take the punishment and pay the price for sin. The angels told Adam that his sin hadSRme 1.138
