    RETURNED TO PILATE

Satan and his angels were tempting Pilate, trying to lead him to his own destruction. Evil angels told Pilate that if he did not say Jesus was guilty, someone else would. The crowd shouted for Jesus to be crucified. Satan warned Pilate that he [Pilate] would lose his power and worldly honor if he did not crucify Jesus. Pilate would be accused of believing in Jesus.SRme 1.959

Pilate did not want to lose his power and authority. So finally he agreed to the death of Jesus. But Pilate tried to put the blame for Jesus' death upon the crowd. The people were glad to take the responsibility. They shouted, "'His blood be on us and on our children'" (Matt. 27:25). But this did not relieve Pilate of blame. Pilate was guilty of Jesus' death. Pilate delivered an innocent man to die to save his own position. If Pilate had followed what he knew was right, he never would have agreed to the death of Jesus.SRme 1.960

Many people who were at Jesus' trial were impressed with His appearance and words. After Jesus resurrection, many people who were at the trial became members of the church.SRme 1.961

Satan was terribly angry when he saw that all the cruelty he led the Jews to do to Jesus did not make Jesus complain. Jesus had taken upon Himself man's nature, but He was strengthened by a Godlike courage. Jesus had done everything that was the will of His Father.SRme 1.962
