    Counsel #9 — Social Comparison

    Picture: Counsel #9 — Social ComparisonCI 109.1

Open Instagram or TikTok, and within seconds, you’re bombarded with beauty “standards” that feel impossible to reach — hourglass shapes, glowing skin, and edited smiles. Slowly, these images will begin to alter how you see yourself, and sooner or later, you’ll start wondering if you’re even pretty enough.CI 109.2

Fortunately, most everything we see online isn’t real. Filters, lighting tricks, and plastic surgery create illusions of perfection, which is why social media breeds comparison. Research shows that constant exposure to these images can change brain chemistry, reinforcing obsessive thoughts, dissatisfaction, and even body dysmorphia. It’s no surprise that more women than ever are altering their bodies just to fit a trend. In the Bible, beauty is never just skin-deep. Esther’s courage, Ruth’s loyalty, Mary’s humility, and the Proverbs 31 woman’s wisdom are all things that God celebrates. Meaning, true femininity isn’t about visually flawless selfies! It’s about a heart fully anchored in God. So, the next time scrolling starts to make you doubt your true value, ask yourself: “Is this helping me see myself the way God sees me?” If not, replace it with something that does.[110] https://www.communicatingpsychologicalscience.com/blog/the-negative-effects-of-social-media-on-women CI 109.3
