    Counsel #11 — Sleep well!

    Picture: Counsel #11 — Sleep well!CMH 13.1

"Sleep well!" is a great wish, but it can feel impossible when your mind is racing with the day’s problems and challenges. It’s hard to find rest when your thoughts are anything but peaceful. But there is a promise of peace: "I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety."[13]Psalms 4:8 This promise reminds us that true rest is possible.[14] https://new.adventistreview.org/magazine-article/getting-adequate-sleep/ CMH 13.2

A well-rested state influences your ability to feel gratitude and appreciate the small moments in your day, which contribute to experiencing peace of mind. Here are some tips to help you get there:CMH 13.3

  • Go to bed earlier.
  • No screen or blue light for at least an hour before sleep.
  • Have your bedroom really dark and well-ventilated.
  • Establish a bedtime routine that helps your body prepare for sleep.
  • Try including prayer, meditative music, and Scripture in your bedtime routine.
  • “When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.” Proverbs 3:24 NKVCMH 13.4

“I know from the testimonies given me from time to time for brain workers, that sleep is worth far more before than after midnight. Two hours’ good sleep before twelve o’clock is worth more than four hours after twelve o’clock.” Ellen White in Manuscript Releases , vol. 7, p. 224CMH 13.5

Reflect: When you’re exhausted, it’s harder to truly connect with God. What sleep choices could you make to improve your meditation and other spiritual practices with Him?CMH 13.6
