Genesis 5

1 This is the historical record ^{a5:1 Or the generations scroll} of Adam’s ^{b5:1 Or mankind’s} generations. When ^{c5:1 Lit. On the day that} God created mankind, ^{d5:1 Lit. Adam} he made them in his own likeness. ^{e5:1 Lit. in the likeness of God}ISV — Genesis 5:1

2 Creating them male and female, he blessed them and called them humans ^{f5:2 Lit. called their name Adam} when ^{g5:2 Lit. on the day he created them} he created them.ISV — Genesis 5:2

3 After Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son just like him, ^{h5:3 Lit. son in his likeness} that is, ^{i5:3 The Heb. lacks that is} according to his own likeness, and named him Seth.ISV — Genesis 5:3

4 Adam lived another 800 years, fathering other ^{j5:4 The Heb. lacks other; and so throughout the chapter} sons and daughters after he had fathered Seth.ISV — Genesis 5:4

5 Adam lived a total ^{k5:5 Lit. all the days; and so throughout the chapter} of 930 years, and then died.ISV — Genesis 5:5

6 When Seth had lived 105 years, he fathered Enosh.ISV — Genesis 5:6

7 After he fathered Enosh, Seth lived 807 years, fathering other sons and daughters.ISV — Genesis 5:7

9 When Enosh had lived 90 years, he fathered Kenan.ISV — Genesis 5:9

12 When Kenan had lived 70 years, he fathered Mahalalel.ISV — Genesis 5:12

23 Enoch lived a total of 365 years,ISV — Genesis 5:23

25 When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he fathered Lamech.ISV — Genesis 5:25

26 After he fathered Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years, fathering other sons and daughters.ISV — Genesis 5:26

27 Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then died.ISV — Genesis 5:27

28 When Lamech had lived 182 years, he fathered a son,ISV — Genesis 5:28

29 whom he named Noah, ^{n5:29 The Heb. name Noah sounds like the word comfort} because he said, “May this one comfort us from our work, from pain that is caused by our manual labor, and from the ground that the LORD has cursed.”ISV — Genesis 5:29

30 After he fathered Noah, Lamech lived 595 years, fathering other sons and daughters.ISV — Genesis 5:30

31 Lamech lived a total of 777 years, and then died.ISV — Genesis 5:31

32 After Noah had lived 500 years, he fathered Shem, Ham, and Japheth.ISV — Genesis 5:32
