Counsel #2 — Conquering Bad Habits

Picture: Counsel #2 — Conquering Bad HabitsCWe 260.1

Lack of self-control in areas like appetite can negatively impact physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, especially if indulging in unhealthy habits. Sometimes, it can be hard to pinpoint why you’re struggling with a specific habit or food craving. Understanding that these struggles often arise from deep-seated patterns, emotional triggers, or the pursuit of instant gratification is the first step to having better control over your decisions.[293] https://www.croydonadventist.org/self-control/ CWe 260.2

The Bible reminds us that a person without self-control is like a city with broken walls,[294]Proverbs 25:28 so overcoming these challenges requires reliance on God’s strength and taking intentional steps to develop discipline and self-control. Identify specific triggers, whether emotional or situational, and create strategies to address them. For example, plan balanced meals, set boundaries around unhealthy habits, and replace destructive behaviors with life-giving ones, such as exercise or creative hobbies. Another great idea is to keep a gratitude journal to shift your focus toward God’s blessings and promises instead of your struggles. Finally, celebrate small victories, remembering that God will equip you to honor Him through your choices.CWe 260.3
