    Counsel #6 — The Promise

    Picture: Counsel #6 — The PromiseCSe 77.1

Let’s unpack the first promise of redemption phrase by phrase: “I (God) will put enmity (hatred) between thee (Satan) and the woman (God’s people), and between your seed (Satan’s followers) and her seed (God’s followers). He (Christ) shall bruise your head (cause Satan’s ultimate destruction) and you (Satan) shall bruise His (Christ’s) heel (instigate Christ’s crucifixion). Genesis 3:15CSe 77.2

Though the sentence foretold war between humanity and Satan, it also declared the power of the great adversary would finally be broken. Only God can resolve evil, and His ultimate solution to the problem of suffering is the eradication of Satan forever.[78]https://adventistreview.org/2009-1528/2009-1528-25/CSe 77.3

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 NKJVCSe 77.4

“As soon as there was sin, there was a Saviour. Christ knew that He would have to suffer, yet He became man’s substitute. As soon as Adam sinned, the Son of God presented Himself as surety for the human race, with just as much power to avert the doom pronounced upon the guilty as when He died upon the cross of Calvary.” The Faith I Live By, p. 75CSe 77.5

Reflect: Does the promise of Genesis 3:15 bring you hope? In what ways?CSe 77.6
