    Counsel #5 — The Church’s Mission

    Picture: Counsel #5 — The Church’s MissionCSe 84.1

The church’s mission is to proclaim the Good News of salvation through Christ alone. Its members alert others to prepare for Jesus’ return through faith in His righteousness as revealed in the three angels’ messages of Revelation 14:6-12. While warning the world that the hour of God’s judgment has arrived, God’s faithful representatives offer hope through the merits of Christ.[84]https://www.adventist.org/official-statements/mission-statement-of-the-seventh-day-adventist-church/CSe 84.2

The members of the church are to also follow Jesus’ example in relieving physical suffering, especially among those who have least. The early apostolic church (the church on earth immediately after Jesus’ ascension to heaven) exemplified practical Christianity.CSe 84.3

“Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” James 1:27 NKJVCSe 84.4

“God has called His church in this day, as He called ancient Israel, to stand as a light in the earth. By the mighty cleaver of truth, the messages of the first, second, and third angels, He has separated them from the churches and from the world to bring them into a sacred nearness to Himself.” Ellen White in Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 455CSe 84.5
