1 Corinthians 13:4-7 reminds us that love is patient and kind, free of envy, pride, or selfishness. It doesn’t dishonor others, isn’t easily angered, and keeps no record of wrongs. Love rejoices in truth, always protects, trusts, hopes, and perseveres.CR 142.2

Applying these principles in a relationship requires prayer, intentionality, and consistent practice as emulating the fruits of the Spirit doesn’t come naturally. As humans, we were born in sin and are now living in a world infested with sin. Portraying the qualities God desires for us to live out requires a constant mindful connection with God, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and a fully surrendered will. One thing that is important to consider when in a relationship is letting go of pride. This means apologizing when you’re wrong, avoiding angry reactions, and not “keeping score.” For example, in a disagreement, instead of retaliating with harsh words, choose patience and speak kindly to resolve the issue.
