Counsel #25 — Behind Closed Doors

Picture: Counsel #25 — Behind Closed DoorsCR 201.1

What if someone told you that love was supposed to hurt? Would you believe them? Sadly, many people in today’s society, especially young adults, believe that mistreatment in a relationship at some point is normal. Abuse - whether emotional, verbal, physical, spiritual, or sexual — is never okay because it was never God’s design. True, covenant love doesn’t isolate, intimidate, belittle, or break down a spouse’s spirit.CR 201.2

It’s not just bruises that define abuse. Constant criticism, control, manipulation, threats, or fear-based silence can all create a toxic environment where safety is never guaranteed. Scripture tells us that love is patient, gentle, and kind, so if a relationship regularly makes you feel unsafe or unseen, something is deeply wrong. If your spouse has physically harmed you, made verbal threats about future harm, or makes your heart race in fear when they’re around, pray to God for a way out. He sees your pain, and He’s waiting for you to seek His face for wisdom and guidance! In addition to God, you can get help from trusted counselors,[209] https://nnedv.org/ pastors, legal counsel, [210] https://www.womenslaw.org/ and crisis centers.[211] https://www.domesticshelters.org/ Staying silent is not an option.[212] https://family.adventist.org/keeping-our-homes-abuse-free/ CR 201.3
