    Counsel #28 — Building a Future

    Picture: Counsel #28 — Building a FutureCR 147.1

Discussing long-term intentions in a relationship is an important step toward clarity, alignment, and full-time commitment. Even though this may seem like an easy enough conversation to have, a lot of people find it rather difficult to be honest and vulnerable about what they want out of a relationship. If you’re ready for the “commitment talk,” prep with plenty of prayer for wisdom![154] https://www.rmcsda.org/living-with-commitments/ CR 147.2

Choose a relaxed, private setting where both of you can feel comfortable. Approach the conversation with full transparency, emphasizing that your goal is to understand your partner’s desires and build a shared vision for the future. Begin with a gentle, non-confrontational question like, “Where do you see us in the next few years?” or “What are your hopes for our relationship?” Avoid pressuring your partner for immediate answers; instead, allow them time to compile their thoughts and express what’s truly on their hearts. Listen attentively to their response and respect their perspective, even if it differs from yours. No matter the outcome, know that God has a plan for you — with or without a relationship.CR 147.3

“And may your hearts be fully committed to the Lord our God, to live by his decrees and obey his commands, as at this time.” 1 Kings 8:61 NIVCR 147.4

“To the end of time, Christ is to be first. He is the source of life and strength and righteousness and holiness.” Ellen White in The Upward Look, p. 85CR 147.5

Reflect: Have you had a commitment conversation with your partner yet?CR 147.6
