    Counsel #8 — Chosen Family

    Picture: Counsel #8 — Chosen FamilyCR 213.1

“How many children should we have?” This is one of the most popular questions among married couples today. For some, this question is answered quite early, but for others, it’s a journey marked by uncertainty, medical complications, or shifting convictions. What matters most isn’t the number, but the unity and prayer that shape the decision.CR 213.2

God gives different families different capacities. Some feel called to raise many children, while others would rather focus their time, finances, and health in ways that lead to fewer children, or possibly even none. The decision on whether to have kids should never be taken lightly — kids are a huge responsibility.[223] https://adventistreview.org/my-church/are-kids-necessary/ Before embarking on this journey, both spouses should make their desires and concerns surrounding children known to God. Pregnancy and birth are hard enough, so the decision should never be forced by cultural pressure, guilt, or fear. Wise family planning considers emotional readiness, physical health, financial stability, and God’s timing. In every case, God calls us to raise children, or influence them, in a way that honors Him, whether through biological parenting, fostering, spiritual mentorship, or community service.[224] https://adventistreview.org/living-faith/five-essential-functions-of-a-father/ CR 213.3

Reflect: Are you inviting God into your decisions about family, or just doing what you feel is right?CR 213.6
