In Ephesians, Paul calls believers to "submit to one another out of reverence for Christ." For most, submission is often mischaracterized as silence or passivity. In reality, it is the willingness to trust, respect, and follow under the guidance of the Spirit.CR 187.2

In a Spirit-filled marriage, submission always flows both ways. Each partner must put the other’s needs before their own, not out of obligation, but as an act of service. This is only possible through the Holy Spirit, who softens the human heart and replaces pride with peace. Submission is not about losing your voice, as many flesh-minded people believe. Rather, it’s about releasing the need to always be right or in control, so both partners can grow together. When submission is mutual and Spirit-led, emotional safety and spiritual intimacy are inevitable. Two partners in covenant together, who can submit to one another, will create a home where each person can be fully honored and loved.
