Counsel #5 — Humility And Silence

Picture: Counsel #5 — Humility And SilenceCSL 79.1

We become learners in the school of Christian humility by taking time in silence to listen to God’s voice speaking to our heart. When we wait before Him in quietness, with media stimuli hushed, the silence of the soul enables us to hear the voice of God. Most of us are in too much of a hurry in our devotional time with God, and don’t wait to receive His counsel and instruction.CSL 79.2

Under the tutoring of the Holy Spirit, learn to balance thought and silent prayer with action and zealous work. Give yourself time to think, to pray, to wait upon God for His transformative and uplifting influence which breaks down pride and self-sufficiency.[79]https://wordsofgrace.blog/2012/05/13/my-soul-waits-in-silence-for-god-only/CSL 79.3

“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalms 46:10 NKJVCSL 79.4

“If we would listen to His voice, we must let silence reign in the heart. The clamors of self, its pretensions, its lusts, must be rebuked, and we must put on the robe of humility, and take our place as humble learners in the school of Christ.” Ellen White in Our High Calling, p. 37CSL 79.5

Reflect: Are you comfortable with silence, or have you conditioned yourself to require background “noise” to function? CSL 79.6
