Counsel #4 — Why Is Overcoming Sin Important?

Picture: Counsel #4 — Why Is Overcoming Sin Important?CSL 94.1

Sin brings death and eternal separation from the Life-giver.[96]Romans 6:23 When we accept Jesus as Lord over our lives, we give up all that would separate us from Him.[97]Luke 14:33 Overcoming sin is a pivotal aspect of our experience in Christ. It is a life-long journey toward being restored in God’s image, preparing for Jesus’ second coming and sharing with others the good news of salvation from sin.CSL 94.2

Sin distorts God's original design for humanity by hindering our ability to reflect His divine image in how we live and love. God offers us power to conquer sin so we can move closer to reestablishing that sacred likeness. Moreover, as we anticipate Christ's imminent return, overcoming sin is essential preparation for eternal life in a sinless realm.[98]Remember, Lucifer/Satan was cast out of Heaven because of sinning against God. Sin and God cannot reside together; sin brings death, and antithetically, God is Life. A life that demonstrates victory over sin is a compelling witness, inspiring others to seek the life-changing power of God's grace.CSL 94.3

Beyond spiritual factors, did you know that sin also negatively impacts physical and mental health? So, the pursuit of holiness is not just about avoiding doing the “wrong thing” but experiencing a happier, healthier life that contributes to a closer covenant relationship with God.[99]https://adventistreview.org/magazine-article/to-him-who-overcomes/CSL 94.4
