Counsel #12 — Forgiveness Of Sin

Picture: Counsel #12 — Forgiveness Of SinCSL 102.1

The path to overcoming sin is intrinsically linked to forgiveness. While confession of sin to God is a crucial first step, it is merely the beginning. True repentance, which involves a genuine turning away from sin, is a must for God’s acceptance of your confession. This life-transforming process requires more than just saying “I’m sorry for my sin;” it demands a radical shift in your heart and actions. When you seek a new heart from God, you are empowered to make real changes in your life, replacing harmful habits with godly character. Consider biblical figures like Adam, David, Manasseh, and Paul. Despite their grievous sins, they found redemption through confession and repentance. These historical figures, imperfect like us, offer hope and encouragement as they demonstrate that overcoming sin is attainable through God’s grace.  CSL 102.2

Understanding we are sinful and in need of a Savior is essential. We cannot erase our past transgressions or independently achieve holiness. However, God’s promise of forgiveness through Christ offers a path to redemption.[119]https://m.egwwritings.org/en/book/2017.185#185CSL 102.3

“You will never succeed in life if you try to hide your sins. Confess them and give them up; then God will show mercy to you.” Proverbs 28:13 GNBUK[120]Good News Bible, British VersionCSL 102.4

“The Bible tells us stories of great and good people, who lived long ago. Each of them was ‘the same kind of person as we are’ (James 5:17) …. Through God’s grace they were able to overcome.” Ellen White, Steps to Jesus, p. 86CSL 102.5
