Counsel #7 — The Nature Of Humanity

Picture: Counsel #7 — The Nature Of HumanityCCL 17.1

Humans, both men and women, were created to reflect God's image. We're all unique individuals with the God-given ability to think for ourselves and make our own choices. We're each a whole person, made up of body, mind, and spirit. We depend on God for everything, from the breath in our lungs to our very existence.CCL 17.2

When the first humans rebelled against God, His reflection in them became flawed, and they became subject to death. Having been separated from God, this brokenness, the inclination to make bad choices, is passed down through the generations. We're all born with weaknesses toward wrongdoing, but God didn't give up on us. Through Jesus Christ, He offered humanity a way back to Himself. And by the Holy Spirit's work in those who are sorry for and have turned away from their sins, the image of God and our connection with Him can be restored within us.CCL 17.3

As God's creation, we're called to love Him and each other, while also taking care of the world around us, which ultimately reflects His glory.[22]https://www.adventist.org/nature-of-humanity/CCL 17.4

“God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:27 NKJVCCL 17.5

“The genealogy of our race, as given by inspiration, traces back its origin, not to a line of developing germs, mollusks, and quadrupeds, but to the Creator.” Ellen White in Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 45CCL 17.6

Reflect: What does it mean to you to be a unique individual with God-given abilities?CCL 17.7
