    One mistake new group leaders make is assuming people will automatically show up. It can be awkward and discouraging to have only one person turn out. Attendance can be uncertain, depending on the culture and context. Leaders fail when they assume advertising once or twice is enough. It takes 5—7 exposures with various advertising methods to make people aware. To ensure success, personally invite people and get a commitment. Use a simple sign-up sheet. This gives you a list of people to contact and remind the day before the group begins. In some cultures, about half the number of people who commit to joining will show up.
