    Counsel #16 — The Lord’s Supper (Communion)

    Picture: Counsel #16 — The Lord’s Supper (Communion)CCL 26.1

Participating in the Lord's Supper is a powerful reminder of Jesus' sacrifice. We share the bread and cup, symbols of His body and blood, to declare our faith in Him as our Leader and Rescuer. During communion, Jesus is there with us, strengthening and encouraging His followers. It's a time to celebrate His death and remember His promise to return someday.CCL 26.2

Before taking part, it's important to reflect on ourselves. We take time to examine our actions, apologize for any wrongs, and recommit to following Jesus. Just like Jesus washing His disciples' feet, the foot washing service is a symbol of fresh beginnings, a chance to serve each other with humility, and to come together in love. The best part? Anyone who believes in Jesus is welcome at the Lord's Supper![33]https://youtu.be/0bZSXyrblr4?si=A3eUAQAJWf-HJ_BtCCL 26.3

“Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.’” Matthew 26:27, 28 NKJVCCL 26.4

“… Our Saviour instituted the Lord’s Supper, to be celebrated, to keep fresh in the memory of His followers the solemn scenes of His betrayal and crucifixion for the sins of the world. He would have His followers realize their continual dependence upon His blood for salvation.” Ellen White in The Signs of the Times, March 25, 1880, par. 8CCL 26.5

Reflect: Reflect on the idea of self-examination before communion. Is there anything in your life that needs discarding or forgiveness?CCL 26.6
