Counsel #5 — Have Something To Offer

Picture: Counsel #5 — Have Something To OfferCCL 84.1

Volunteer mission service doesn’t require lots of experience. But it does require some basic skills. For example, a volunteer ESL teacher might be trained on-site, but they will still need to know English well enough to teach it effectively.[111]https://www.ministrymagazine.org/archive/1992/11/overseas-mission-service Similarly, volunteer schoolteachers usually don’t need a teaching degree, but one or two years of college might still be required. It’s not enough to simply come from a developed country. Volunteers need to be able to contribute in a meaningful way. So, if you want to be a volunteer missionary, you should ask yourself a simple question: Is the placement a good fit for your existing skills?[112]https://vividfaith.com/CCL 84.2

“A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.” Proverbs 18:16CCL 84.3

“The talents that fit a man for service are entrusted to him, not only that he may be an acceptable worker himself, but that he may also be enabled to teach others who in some respects are deficient.” Ellen White in The Review and Herald, June 27, 1912, par. 6CCL 84.4

Reflect: Do you have any skills or abilities that can be used in the mission field? If not, how can you gain those skills?CCL 84.5
