    Counsel #2 — Activity Groups

    Picture: Counsel #2 — Activity GroupsCCL 65.1

Activity-based groups are the easiest to start. They focus on hobbies like crafts, photography, and cooking, or interests such as sports or serving others.[91]https://adventistreview.org/news/in-malawi-dorcas-society-reaches-out-to-support-health-centre/ Hobby groups can be for those already skilled or educational to teach others. Service groups can find projects everyone can contribute to, like home repairs. For example, one church started a basketball group. They would pause at halftime to share a devotional thought, pray together, and then continue playing. Some group members invited their friends, and others passing by asked to join. A few players who participated in the devotional asked for Bible studies and were eventually baptized. Small groups have a powerful impact on others, especially when Jesus is intentionally included.CCL 65.2

“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31CCL 65.3

“Last evening we had a Dorcas society [meeting] in our home, and my workers who help in the preparation of my articles for the papers, and do the cooking and sewing, five of them, sat up until midnight, cutting out clothing. They made three pairs of pants for the children of one family. Two sewing machines were running until midnight. I think there was never a happier set of workers than were these girls last evening.” Ellen White in Letters and Manuscripts, Letter 113, 1897, par. 6CCL 65.4

Reflect: Consider 2 or 3 groups you might be interested in leading or joining. Would you prefer to be involved in a hobby-based group, teach or learn a skill, or do something else?CCL 65.5
