Mass incarceration is a modern extension of slavery, perpetuated by a system that thrives on maintaining an underclass. Poverty, one of the strongest factors contributing to crime, is systematically enforced to keep certain groups oppressed. As highlighted in the documentary 13^th,^{[70]https://youtu.be/krfcq5pF8u8?si=YJO5TbcvH4oRPCl7} the American incarceration system was intentionally designed to control those perceived as threats. Prejudices are passed down through generations, fueled by fear and phrases like "Look at how many of them are in prison!" or "Black on Black crime," which statements are inherently racist. Spiritually, this reflects a deeper truth: we are all enslaved by sin. Physical imprisonment can paradoxically lead to mental freedom, as some find liberation from sin while incarcerated.
