    Counsel #10 — Integrity

    Picture: Counsel #10 — IntegrityCSI 123.1

Integrity and ethics are the bedrock of any successful institution. They foster trust, ensure fair treatment, and guide decision-making towards the greater good. Conversely, their absence creates a fertile ground for failure, eroding trust, fostering corruption, and leading to bullying and power struggles.CSI 123.2

Self-interest, greed, and a lack of transparency can lead to biased decision-making that prioritizes personal gain over the well-being of the institution and its stakeholders. This can result in poor resource allocation, missed opportunities, loss of public trust and a toxic work environment.[173]https://stewardship.adventist.org/building-confidenceCSI 123.3

The Bible repeatedly emphasizes the importance of justice and fairness in all aspects of life, including business and governance. (Proverbs 21:15, Amos 5:7)CSI 123.4

“Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are His delight.” Proverbs 12:22 NKJVCSI 123.5

“In every business transaction be rigidly honest. However tempted, never deceive or [be evasive] in the least manner. At times a natural impulse may bring temptation to diverge from the straightforward path of honesty, but do not vary one hairsbreadth. If in any matter you make a statement as to what you will do, and afterward find that you have favored others to your own loss, do not vary a hairsbreadth from principle. Carry out your agreement.” Ellen White in Counsels for the Church, p. 83CSI 123.6

Reflect: Most everyone has been frustrated by institutional bribery, embezzlement, and nepotism. What keeps you from yielding to the temptation to abuse power?CSI 123.7
