Counsel #7 — United Focus On Christ

Picture: Counsel #7 — United Focus On ChristCSI 112.1

It’s important to differentiate between climate change and global warming. NASA states that climate change “encompasses global warming but refers to the broader range of changes that are happening to our planet, including rising sea levels; shrinking mountain glaciers; accelerating ice melt in Greenland, Antarctica and the Arctic; and shifts in flower/plant blooming times.”[162]https://climate.nasa.gov/what-is-climate-change/CSI 112.2

There is vast diversity of thought on whether our planet is experiencing global warming, but virtually everyone agrees that climate change is occurring. As Christians, we can focus on what we hold in common, and let that be the catalyst to encourage us to recycle, manage our resources with care, and be good stewards of the Lord’s Creation.CSI 112.3

“I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.” 1 Corinthians 1:10 NLTCSI 112.4

“As we approach the last crises, it is of vital moment that harmony and unity exist among the Lord’s instrumentalities…. Amidst the general discord let there be one place where harmony and unity exist because the Bible is made the guide of life.” Ellen White in Testimonies for the Church, vol. 7, p. 182CSI 112.5

Reflect: How could you keep the conversation Christ-centered when discussing climate change with someone whose viewpoint differs from yours?CSI 112.6
